Cup final rule changes and history

  • 1: ASEC Abidjan are also known as ASEC Mimosas.
  • 2: In 1997 the format of the tournament was changed to incorporate a league stage. This became the CAF Champions League.
  • 3: JS Kabylie stands for Jeunesse Sportive Kabylie.
  • 4: MP Oran stands for Mouloudia Petroliers Oran.
  • 5: EP Sétif stands for Entente Plasticiens Sétif.
  • 6: FAR Rabat stands for Forces Armées Royal Rabat.
  • 7: From 1972 onwards the final is decided on aggregate goals, played over two legs. If aggregate scores are level the away goals rule applies. If the teams are still tied, extra time and then penalties are played.
  • 8: Play-off at Canon Yaoundé, Cameroon. Game abandoned with the score at 1-0, but the result stood.
  • 9: TP Englebert stands for Tout Puissant Englebert.
  • 10: Play-off was due to be played at Yaoundé, Cameroon. Asante Kotoko did not appear for it, so the cup was awarded to TP Englebert.
  • 11: From 1966 to 1971, the final was decided on points (2 for a win & 1 for a draw). Aggregate scores didn't apply. If the teams had level points after two legs, a play-off match would be played.
  • 12: The final was initially played as one game in 1964.
